When Did We Start Buying the Illussion?

I think I was fourteen or fifteen when I first became dissatisfied with what I saw in the mirror. I am not sure where the seed of discontent came from.

I attended an all girls school and we wore uniforms and I don’t remember there being any emphasis on our figures in that environment. We didn’t even have a gym or shower room but somehow I decided I was fat and needed to diet. Looking back I now realize that my weight was just about right for my height.   I had by then reached my full height of 5’8″ and weighted 155. Not poker thin but well within a healthy range. Marna Goldstein Thrall has discovered this truth and shares the first steps to learning to accept and love ourselves and letting go of the fat self-image we have held on to for so many years.

Eating Right While Away From Home

This week Chuck and I are on the road and hoping from one house to another visiting friends and family.  We brought along our weights and exercise guide and have been pretty faithful to our routine but I do find it more difficult to eat well when we are visiting with others.  There is a lot of tendency to grab something quick and easy and other folks don’t necessarily cook what we would.
